These small, tropical islands are located between Puerto Rico
and Trinidad. The two islands were controlled by various
countries over the years, but they gained their independence in
1983. Fifteen years later, Nevis tried to separate from St.
Kitts but was unsuccessful. Despite the small islands rough
history and past, life on the islands have pretty much settled
down over the years. Compared to other places in the Caribbean,
expenses in St. Kitts and Nevis are relatively low or normal.
That said, being a small island, there may not be as wide a
selection of good as you are accustomed to.
Still, when all is said and done, if you are looking for a great
way to experience the Caribbean lifestyle without spending too
much money or being overwhelmed by crowds of tourists, a trip to
St. Kitts and Nevis may be in order. There are many great, old
forts to explore and discover on the islands. In addition, the
islands are home to many monkeys. Some say they were brought by
the pirates, but wherever they originally came from, they are
here to stay. For the most part, they are not dangerous unless
you
provoke them. They're more common in the countryside and
outside urban areas. While they may be considered cute by
tourists, most locals who have to live with their antics year
round consider them annoying pests.
